Dr Rachel Lofthouse
Head of Education in the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, UK



As well as her role heading up the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, Dr Rachel Lofthouse is a core member of the Research Centre for Learning and Teaching (CfLaT) where she is Head of Teacher Learning and Development.

Rachel has a specific interest in the link between practice development and professional learning for teachers and educators, based on innovative pedagogies and curriculum design and collaborative practices for coaching and mentoring. She works with student teachers and their school-based mentors, teachers, school-based coaches, Master's and Doctoral students and school leaders, and supports her learners in building their workplace expertise while developing critical reflection and their ability to contribute to, and draw productively on, the evidence base for teaching and learning.

Rachel has published in academic and professional journals on the subjects of coaching and mentoring, the innovative use of video to support practice development, practitioner enquiry and professional learning.

Rachel is also a blog editor for the British Educational Research Association.
